Bowers Basebed & Bowers Whitbed
Scope of Project:
Traditional cladding, Rainscreen cladding and internal walling
The Project comprised of redeveloping two existing properties requiring approximately 650m ² of Portland Stone Rain screen Cladding and retaining the façade of a third building.
Portland Stone Cladding was also used to the side elevation in Clare Lane of approximately 200m ². The project team visited Albion Stone’s Factory & Quarry to view production and select stone in August 1999.
Bowers Whitbed was selected for the cladding and a test programme to include Saturation Co-efficient and Micro-porosity was established to ascertain durability of the Stone.
Portland Stone began the manufacturing programme of 170 cubic metres of Bowers Whitbed during August, with deliveries beginning in September 1999. Portland Bowers Basebed was also selected for the internal flooring.
Portland Stone also provided the foundation stone to Richard Kindersley for inscription prior to transport to site. The project was completed in Spring 2000 at an estimated value of £12.5 million.
